The BRITs and ITV issue apology for cutting Adele short

Anyone watching the BRITs last night will have witnessed an embarrassed host James Cordon cutting Adele short as she accepted her award for Master Card Album of the Year.
Cordon was forced to step onstage and interrupt Adele as she accepted her second award of the night (alongside British Female Solo Artist) as Blur were due to being their closing performance.
Slightly startled, Adele nevertheless made way for the band, who had earlier been awarded a BRIT for an Outstanding Contribution to Music.
ITV and the BRITs have now issued apologies for the incident.
An ITV spokesman said: The BRITs is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption.
A BRITs spokesman followed ITV’s statement: We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don’t want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night’s biggest award. It tops off what’s been an incredible year for her.
To see how the awards went down from moment to moment read our live commentary from the night.
